You need to know you are in supportive and trustworthy hands. I therefore offer a warm, gentle, patient and caring manner, through which a safe and secure environment is established. Because the relationship between client and counsellor is so crucial, I spend real time, commitment and effort developing that relationship, working collaboratively with you throughout. I am a humanistic therapist - my approach blends person-centred counselling skills with an existential worldview. Jargon aside, in simple terms this means I provide an empathic, non-judgemental space where you are respected and made comfortable as we explore your world. This deep exploration encourages you to make better sense of your life through looking at your thoughts, feelings and experiences. I believe you have the ability to grow, change and ultimately heal – and that the conditions I offer will provide you with the opportunity to do this. |
An analogy I sometimes use with clients when describing our work together is that of a car journey: Imagine you’re driving the car. You decide where we are going, and at what speed. The route we take, direct or not, and how fast or slow we travel, is down to you. But I am sitting beside you, in the passenger seat. I will go wherever you go, for as long as the journey takes. I won’t get out of the car – until you decide it’s time for you to go on, alone. |
