FAQs

“We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed.”
Carl Rogers

How might counselling help me?

Counselling provides you with a safe and secure, confidential space where you can talk about your issues and concerns with a trained professional. Your thoughts, feelings, experiences and behaviours will be explored, in order that you might arrive at a better understanding of yourself. I will not give you advice, nor solve your problems – but I will help you arrive at your own solutions. I will also be empathic and listen to you without judgement.

Will I have to talk about difficult issues?

You will not be forced to talk about anything you do not want to talk about. However, by its very nature, counselling does involve, at times, exploring in depth what can be serious and often painful subject areas.

Is it confidential?

Yes – your privacy is essential to me, therefore everything you say in counselling is confidential. However, there are a couple of exceptions, which I will outline in our first session together.

Do you work face-to-face, online or by telephone?

I work face-to-face from my private practice therapy room in Bath; a quiet, confidential and welcoming space. I also work online via easy-to-use video conferencing platform Zoom and by telephone.

How long are the sessions?

The therapeutic hour is 50 minutes. Sessions start promptly, so if you are late the session still ends at the normal time and the full fee still applies.

How often will we meet?

Sessions usually take place weekly, on the same day, at the same time.

How many sessions will there be?

This is entirely dependent on you, and what issues you are coming to address and their complexity. Counselling does not always offer instant solutions to problems, and it can take time for a therapeutic relationship to develop. You can continue for as long as the sessions are of benefit to you. Our work will be reviewed regularly as therapy continues, usually after every six sessions.

How much will it cost?

I charge £55 per session. Fees are payable in advance of each session by bank transfer.

Cancellation policy:

Any cancellations within 24 hours of the session will be charged the full amount, except in exceptional circumstances.
Please feel free to ask any other questions you have during our initial telephone consultation.
